Incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy and Socialist challenger
Francois Hollande took turns answering reporters'
questions, many of which focused on economic
issues.
Hollande said France needed
"growth", not more austerity. In
response, "You don't think growth is
achieved by spending freely," Mr
Sarkozy said.
Germany, the european partner,
won’t agree with all the demands,
"It's not Germany that's going to
decide for all of Europe.” They said.
President Sarkozy has promised to
tackle the budget deficit and tax
people who leave the country for
tax reasons.
Mr Hollande has promised to raise taxes on big
corporations and people earning more than 1m euros
a year.
If elected, Mr Hollande would be France's first left-
wing president since Francois Mitterrand, who
completed two seven-year terms between 1981 and
1995.
If Mr Sarkozy loses he will become the first president
not to win a second term since Valery Giscard
d'Estaing in 1981.

socialiste François Hollande ont chacun leur tour
répondu aux questions des journalistes, beaucoup
ont tourné autour de problèmes économiques.
Hollande a déclaré que la France a
besoin de “croissance” et non pas
d’austérité. En réponse, “on
n’obtiendra pas de croissance en
dépensant à tout-va” a dit Nicolas
Sarkozy.
L’Allemagne, le partenaire européen,
ne sera pas d’accord avec toutes les
demandes, “mais ce n’est pas
l’Allemagne qui va décider pour toute
l’Europe” ont-ils dit.
Le président Sarkozy a promis qu’il
s’attaquerait au déficit budgétaire et
aux impôts de ceux qui quittent le pays pour des raisons de
taxes.
François Hollande a promis d’augmenter les taxes des
grosses sociétés et des personnes qui gagnent plus de un
million d’euros par an.
Si il est élu, François Hollande serait le premier président de
gauche depuis François Mitterand qui avait fait 2 septennats
de 1981 à 1995.
Si Nicolas Sarkozy perd, il deviendra le premier président à
ne pas avoir gagner le second tour depuis Valery Giscard
d’Estaing en 1981.
