2009 Air France crash:
First body recovered from the seabed.
The body was taken to the surface by
mini-submarines from a depth of almost
4km.
Samples are being sent to laboratories in
France for DNA identification.
Data on the recovered flight recorders may indicate
the origin of the crash.
Flight AF 447 was transporting 228 people. Fifty-one
bodies were found floating on the surface in 2009.
The French team is using deep-
sea robots in the salvage
operation.
A Good Way To Learn French
Glossary Crash: crash. Seabed or sea bed: fond de la mer Submarine: le sous-marin Sample: échantillon, prélèvement. DNA: ADN. Recorder or Black-box: boîte noire To float: flotter. Salvage: sauvetage, récupération (for re-use)
are being sent: en train d'être envoyé(e,s,es), but the tense is a bit inelegant in French, we prefer to use the past: ont été envoyé or viennent d'être envoyé, or the near future: vont être envoyé.
same thing for: the recovered flight recorders, we prefer "data recovered on the flight recorders"
